Don't Panic
This must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays
I haven't even logged into LJ in ages. I'm not really sure why, it wasn't a deliberate choice or anything. But there's nothing better than good news that you want to share to bring someone back to a semi-public form.

Kent Hovind (also known as Dr Dino), one of the country's most prominent (and obnoxious) creationists was charged a while ago with tax fraud. His defense? All his property in fact belonged to God, so he owed no taxes.

Today Kent Hovind was sentenced to ten years in jail. I can't stop cackling.

Anyway, maybe later I'll actually post something about what's been going on since I disappeared from livejournal, but until then I hope that at least some of you enjoy the thought of Dr Dino behind bars as much as I do.

We won the House and maybe the Senate and Rummy's resigning!

And now I'm off to work.

I have the apartment to myself, I fixed my computer (desktop, anyway), and Richard Dawkins is on the Colbert Report.

It's a good evening.

On the O'Reilly Factor last night they did extensive covering of the Foley scandal, with good reason. However the screen repeatedly showed his name followed by (D-FL), saying that Foley is a Democrat.

The Foley scandal is quite possibly going to tip the scales in the upcoming election. Foley's seat is toast, Hastert may have to step down, and all in all it makes the Republicans look horrible. However, given how many Americans get their news exclusively from Fox, there's no telling how many people are now under the impression that the Democrats are the ones fostering paedophilia.

Of course, Fox News is going to claim that this is merely a typo. However, when they replayed the episode later that evening, they 'fixed' it by deleting that text altogether. They made absolutely no mention of the fact that he is, in fact, a Republican.

The only possible upside to this is the timing. Fox News is currently experiencing the first and only ratings slump in their history. Hopefully word will get out of the kind of shit they're trying to pull and maybe, just maybe, people will start to figure out how far they can trust the Fox News Network to bring them unbiased information.

Fair and balanced in their unwavering support of the Republican party through any and all means available no matter how dishonest or disgusting.

Ok, so here's the back story.

Two days ago I was getting ready to start the first flight of this trip. I got a call in the crew room from the ops center letting me know that our flight was going to be delayed because Karl Rove was going to be aboard and the Secret Service was having a hard time with the Armed Individual paperwork. I went and told Tom, the captain, about this and all he said was, 'Fuck, I hate Karl Rove!' I was kind of surprised by this as most Horizon pilots are very conservative.

We headed out to the plane which was parked as far as physically possible from the terminal. Parked maybe a hundred meters from our plane was another aircraft, a small turboprop from an airline I didn't recognise, and between the planes was a black car. There were men in trenchcoats swarming the area and TSA agents trying to screen them (why they were doing this outside I have no idea).

I got everything set up and finished my preflight and they boarded Rove and his escort. The captain who had brought our plane in was still waiting on the airplane for a chance to meet him. He got Rove to sign an autograph and kept blathering about what a good Republican he was before finally leaving. As Rove was goign to his seat, he saw my book sitting out (Games and Decisions: Introduction and Critical Survey) and asked who was reading about game theory. I said that I was and he said I was obviously intelligent. He then started talking to his escorts about what I was reading and how I must be either a mathematician, a philosopher or both.

Eventually I think he figured out that I was not happy that he was on my airplane and stopped trying to talk to me. I later found out that he'd waved at Tom who was up in the flight deck as he boarded and Tom had just glared at him and shook his head. Unfortunately, because he had an armed escort I couldn't do much to him except, as he deplaned, say 'Fuck you.' Still, it's not often you get to say something like that to Karl Rove's face.

Karl Rove complimented me today. I may never feel clean again.

Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter, is dead. I'm not sure why I care, but apparently I'm not the only one. The article's been up on the NYT website for twenty minutes and there are already three posts about it on my friends page.

Today it started raining again. I've missed the rain. Not the torrential downpours I've waded through in New York or the massive storms in Montana but the soft drizzle of the Pacific Northwest. This summer has been hot and dry and it's good to see the weather becoming normal again.

In less cool news, I'm back on reserve next bid. Not happy about that.

Here's how little time I spend at home: yesterday I wanted a cup of tea and after searching the kitchen for almost an hour I finally realised that I don't own a kettle. I just always have one available because I'm always at someone else's house or a hotel. Needless to say, I remedied the situation immediately. I just can't believe that I didn't have a tea kettle.

I also finally got around to cleaning my room and buying another bookcase so I don't have as many books strewn across the floor. I'm not usually so productive. I wonder what's wrong with me.
